The 14th Annual Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival comes at the perfect time, in the beginning of the new year, when we all are rethinking our dietary and fitness regime. The festival is this Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout Lafayette. The festival includes an oatmeal breakfast, 5K walk/run, health fair, oatmeal-baking contest and the Oatmeal Creation Challenge.

Yoga studio supports troops

Green Mountain Yoga’s Care program is sending our servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan care packages filled with treats from home. In December, Green Mountain mailed six care packages—90 pounds worth—filled with snacks, toiletries, playing cards and books to a Transportation Unit from Colorado stationed in Afghanistan. Care packages were all donated by the students and community of Green Mountain Yoga.

Forest Service looks to preserve HD Mountains

DENVER – The future of some of southwestern Colorado’s most rugged terrain will be decided in the new year. On Dec. 30, attorneys for oil and gas developers, conservation groups and federal agencies met in a Denver courtroom to continue a tug-of-war over whether to allow about 140 gas wells to be drilled in the HD Mountains east of Durango.
