Winter bike to work day

If you’ve been in Boulder for more than five minutes, you probably realized that it’s a huge biking community. Spandex-clad bikers are ubiquitous year round. When I moved here a little over two years ago I was startled by how many bikers were on the road, but now after acclimating to the Boulder lifestyle, I feel comfortable with sharing the road. So next Wednesday, Jan. 20, on GO Boulder’s second annual Winter Bike to Work Day, I will dust off my bike and head down the road to work. Hey, maybe this event will convince me to bike to work more often. Hope so. It’s the Boulderganic thing to do.

The 14th Annual Lafayette Quaker Oatmeal Festival comes at the perfect time, in the beginning of the new year, when we all are rethinking our dietary and fitness regime. The festival is this Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout Lafayette. The festival includes an oatmeal breakfast, 5K walk/run, health fair, oatmeal-baking contest and the Oatmeal Creation Challenge.

There’s been an ongoing theme this month of local businesses shutting down – first, Boulder-fixture Bart’s CD Cellar, and then Burnt Toast and Sidney’s Café. And b.side Lounge is closing its doors for good on New Year’s Eve.
