Parks and Recreation seeks community input on Pottery Lab Jan. 12

The City of Boulder is moving forward with a management assessment and planning for the long-range future of the Pottery Lab. As part of this process, the Boulder Parks and Recreation Department is inviting members of the community to provide input. The department will host a public workshop on the Pottery Lab from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the West Senior Center (909 Arapahoe Ave.).

The Pottery Lab, located at 1010 Aurora Ave., is the city’s clay arts facility and home to all pottery classes and programs. Late last year, the city manager asked the department to launch this process in early 2011 rather than choosing a private contractor to take over the operations of the Pottery Lab. At the workshop, the department will present a brief overview of the program’s operation and budget before asking participants to provide ideas and suggestions on how to meet the following goals:

a) Maintain the educational value of the programs to the community;

b) Reduce costs and expenses (including staffing expenses and city subsidies);

c) Increase instructional programming to engage a broader segment of our community in the lab

All members of the community are invited to participate and share their ideas and input.
